Massage Therapy is a manual or hands-on treatment that focuses on muscles, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue (fascia), and joints. With multiple methods and techniques, a Registered Massage Therapist works on the body to optimize the health and well-being of an individual.

What is Massage Therapy?

Therapeutic Massage treatments act on several body systems, namely, the muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems. With a therapeutic massage, physical function can be improved and maintained. On the other hand, when the body sustains an injury or works through postural imbalances, physical dysfunction occurs leading to discomfort or pain.

There are many beneficial manual therapies available in the world and scientific evidence proves massage therapy is certainly among them. Massage therapy dates back to the 1700’s and since its debut, therapists have been expanding their knowledge on anatomy, physiology and body kinetics to create well balanced treatment plans for their clients.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

What is Therapeutic Ultrasound?

Therapeutic Ultrasound is a modality that has been used by trained professionals since the 1940’s to help decrease pain, inflammation, and accumulation of scar tissue. Here are just a few conditions that may benefit from the use of Ultrasound therapy:

  • Tendonitis
  • Arthritis
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Bursitis

How does it work?

The Ultrasound uses electricity to vibrate special crystals located in the head of the Ultrasound wand. This then vibrates through the tissue to help bring more blood flow to the area and aid in the healing process. Depending on a multitude of factors, the practitioner will set the parameters of the machine to allow for optimal benefit.

Is it painful?

No. if applied correctly with the proper settings, the client will not feel any discomfort.

How long is a typical treatment?

A typical treatment can last 3-5 minutes depending on what’s needed. That said, if working on scar tissue, it may take up to 10 minutes or more.

Who can benefit from Ultrasound therapy?

Everyone can benefit from Ultrasound therapy if deemed necessary by the practitioner.

What is the CMTO?

The CMTO or College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, continues to improve professional regulation while establishing confidence and trust, ultimately protecting the public’s interest.
There are 4 main pillars on which the CMTO is built.

  1. Honesty
  2. Integrity
  3. Respect for Others
  4. Accountability

The CMTO also guides Registered Massage Therapists to deliver the safest and highest quality of care to the public. In that respect, there are specific standards of practice that must be followed by all Registered Massage Therapists to ensure that clients receive safe and effective treatments.
