Classical Osteopathy, Counselling & Consultations
On Sabbatical – Not providing Osteopathic care at this time
BIO
With over 24 years of experience in health care sciences, Sean provides osteopathic treatment from a classical approach to care which is rooted in the profession’s rich history, as he has received training in Canada, the United States, and England.
Your initial consultation begins with an in-depth verbal intake to clearly understand your health history, answer any questions and provide a structural examination to identify the presenting structural and physiological challenges. The first treatment will begin once all information has been gathered, questions are answered, and goals have been established. The approach to therapy is uniquely tailored for each individual. All structures are examined, gently adjusted and reintegrated for optimum balance. The healing process begins once alignment is achieved, obstructions are removed, and the vital forces of our nerves, arteries, veins, lymphatics and cerebral spinal fluid can work and heal as nature intended.
In addition to osteopathic care, Sean provides counselling services for those interested in moving beyond their mental, emotional or spiritual challenges, which may inhibit forward movement and the overall enjoyment of a fulfilling life. Consultation services are also available to graduate practitioners who wish to advance their manual skills and approach to client care.
Educational background
Sean began his career in health sciences studying natural medicine and herbology in 1999 before graduating from ICT Kikkawa College with a diploma in massage therapy and Suikodo shiatsu in 2003. Following this, he attended McMaster University to study contemporary medical acupuncture, advanced anatomy, and dissection studies. In 2005, Sean pursued the art and science of osteopathy at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy and graduated with a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Theory and Practice (DOMTP) in 2008. After completing his thesis on osteopathic education (principles and practice), Sean obtained a Master’s in Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (MOMSC) while receiving the John Wernham Award and the A.T. Still Medal of Honour that year.
Between 2010 and 2014, he taught osteopathic principles and practice, wrote four books, and worked as the Educational Coordinator at the CAO. During these four years, Sean additionally held the position of president of the Ontario Osteopathic Association (later known as OSTCAN) while working in insurance relations and developing ethical practice management procedures. In 2014, Sean retired from teaching, stepped down as president of the OOA, and moved to London with his wife, Sue, and their two children, where they opened a multi-disciplinary clinic at 747 Hyde Park Rd.
In 2020, Sean returned as an elected member of the OSTCAN Board of Directors and resumed his previous position as president of the Association. During this time, he worked with a strong and dedicated Board of Directors to radically change the political realm of OMPs (osteopathic manual practitioners) to be delisted under personal care services and legally recognized as an independent healthcare profession under the Ministry of Health and the existing schedule. In June of 2021, the OSTCAN board successfully won their case with the ministry so that OMPs could legally work during lockdowns and help those needing essential clinical care during that challenging time in history.
Over the past several years, Sean has completed courses throughout the USA and Canada focusing on leadership skills, self-development, crisis counselling, general coaching, mindfulness, and pain management programs. Since the spring of 2018, Sean has focused educational pursuits on the individual’s mental, emotional, and spiritual challenges during the healing process. During this time, he furthered his education by completing a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in counselling at the Canada Christian College, where he was also ordained.
Through these additional levels of education, Sean offers counselling services apart from his osteopathic practice, which focuses on chronic pain management, life skills, distress and grief counselling, pastoral care, family and marriage therapy and wellness. Consulting services draw upon Sean’s experience in clinical practice management, political involvement, teaching, and overall treatment approach.
